Spanish future tense

How does a future tense work in Spamish? Can I use any other way to refer to the future?

You have two ways to talk about an action in future tense like in English, depending on the conversation. In casual or informal conversations the first way is the most used one; formal conversations use the second one.

1. "I will see my mom next week" = "Yo vere a mi madre la proxima semana"
2. "I am going to eat with my friends this afternoon" = "Yo voy a comer con mis amigos esta tarde"

There are 2 futures in Spanish. The imperfect future is what in English is WILL but the use is different. This future is used for written formal communication.

Example. El presidente asumirá en enero.

The other one is the GOING TO which is the used for conversational Spanish.

Example. Este fin de semana voy a ir a la playa.
