"Nicole has already biked X kilometers. She will bike more than Y additional kilometers. Let's look at the possible total number of kilometers Nicole will bike."
Another way to read this is Nicole will bike at least more than Y additional kilometers on top of the X she already biked.
Let's represent the total number of kilometers Nicole will bike as Z > X + Y.
Why greater than? Because Nicole will bike more than Y kilometers on top of the existing X kilometers.
Why is the symbol not greater than or equal to (≥)? Because Nicole bikes more than Y kilometers, so she won't bike exactly Y kilometers in our scenario.
