The primary function of chlorophyll in an organism is to absorb light energy from the sun and convert it into chemical energy during photosynthesis. Specifically, chlorophyll absorbs light most efficiently in the blue and red wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum while reflecting green light, which is why plants appear green.
