Some Spanish students find it difficult to understand the concept of gendered nouns and adjectives. Other languages, like English, do not use gendered nouns and adjectives. As a teacher, I always use articles (whether definite or indefinite) with the nouns, because it tells the student the gender of the noun.
For example, instead of saying "mesa" I would say "la mesa", thus indicating the student, without further explanation, that it is a feminine noun.
