The density of Oxygen is 0.001429 grams per cubic centimeter. How is this number written in Scientific Notation?

1.429 × 10^-3 if 3 decimal places are acceptable, and 1.43 × 10^-3 if only 2 decimal places are acceptable.

The number at the left should be greater than or equal to 1, but less than 10. So 1.000 (or 1.00) would be the smallest number (excluding the sign) and 9.999 (or 9.99) would be the largest.

The number of places you need to move the decimal point determines the power of 10 required for the conversion.

More accuracy could be used, but 2 or 3 places is common.
