For background, I have worked with homeschooling families since 2017 both online and in-person.
Benefits include:
- personalized instruction that can focus both on the academic needs and interests of the student
- can go at own pace (if the child is really strong in math, they can work ahead; if they are struggling at reading, you can spend extra time on it)
- flexibility of where and when you homeschool (great for children who are active in travel sports, or if the family travels a great deal)
- lots of opportunities for field trips to aid in learning
Challenges include:
- choosing curriculum
- being worried about how to teach something
- some people say lack of socialization, but there are plenty of activities/ways for homeschooled children (in most areas) to interact with other children (so it is not necessarily a challenge for all families)
Hopefully this helps with some benefits and challenges!
