Solving the length and angle of a given Vector

How can I solve for R and θ in the following vector diagram:

Is the angle between the 17.8m vector and the 57.3 m vector a right angle? The picture doesn't say.

Yes My apologies. Wyzant took time to review the image link so I had to try describe it in word detail. Thanks for the assistance. And to Mr Anthony T; yes, I assume displacement C is parallel to the Y-axis.

Hello!

In the image, I cannot see the directions of the vectors (no arrow heads). So, my answer will be fairly generic.


  1. Create and x-y table
  2. Enter the x and y components of each vector (careful with + vs -)
  3. Add each column together to get the components of your Resultant.
  4. Use Pythagorean Theorem to solve for the Magnitude of the Resultant.
  5. To find the Angle of the Resultant, use Tangent and the y- and x-components of R.
