Writing Scares Me! Help!

My name is Emma Cage and I'm a 3rd grade teacher. The children I've work with have a wide range of writing skills, and I know that for some the writing process- even if just a few sentences- can be intimidating. I can help your child build confidence in this, and I would begin by making sure they are getting to practice writing about what they enjoy and take interest in! We can revisit any previous skills needed as well. I can also help your child with their homework to help them stay on top of the grades. Don't hesitate to reach out!

The key to overcoming your fear of writing is to increase your confidence. Here are three steps to get you there: 1. Breathe Deep. A breath awareness or other kind of centering practice is a great way to start your writing session because it tames those voices in your head. 2. Set goals. Know that you can improve your writing over time, and every time you write, you are doing just that. A good tutor can help take the mystery out of what it is you are working toward so that you can see your progress and increase your confidence. 3. Celebrate along the way! As you see your writing improve, or even your commitment to the discipline improve, take a minute and celebrate. Even a few words of encouragement to yourself goes a long way in quietening the fear.
