Always look one place to the right of the rounding position, i.e. if rounding to tenths, look to the hundredths position. If that figure is 0 - 4, no change and drop all digits beyond; if the "key" figure is 5 - 9, then increase the value in the rounding position by 1 and drop all remaining figures.
ex: 22.929 to two decimals (hundredths) would be 22.93 because the figure in the thousandths place is between 5 and 9.
ex: 4.714 becomes 4.71 because the figure in the thousandths position is between 0 and 4.
53.571 to the nearest one is 54 (because of the 5 in the tenths position.
