asked 09/11/23QUESTION ANSWERS FOR APUSH BOOK
Read the first 100 pages of "The Devil's Snare: The Salem Witchcraft crisis of 1692" by Mary Beth Norton (pg 15-115), afterwards answer these questions:
Please respond to the following prompts. Be sure to develop your thoughts completely, using your best writing skills.
Questions 1-2 should be paragraphs and not bulletpoints
1. In a well developed paragraph, summarize the major point of this reading.
2. Describe the bias of the author. From what perspective does the author write- political, social, economic? Why is this significant in the selection you have read? Do NOT tell me the author doesn't have any bias or only reports "the facts"! All historical writing contains bias, perspective and interpretation. Try to determine what this means in the case of your reading selection (HINT: often, the author will discuss perspective and interpretation in the introduction or forward. It is always a good idea to read this portion in addition to your required pages).
Questions 3-4 can be bullet points
3. Different from the "what is the main point' question above, list several things that you learned from this reading (things you did not know before reading the selection). This response may be in bullet form. You should be able to list 5 things at a minimum. (at least 3 for the extra credit portion)
4. One of the purposes of this assignment is to help you be prepared to refer to historians or historically significant individuals in your A P essays. Please write down quotes from the reading selection that you think might be helpful. Try to be selective. Choose quotes that are genuinely typical of the writer's thinking or that highlight a major point in the writer's argument. Include page numbers so that you can find them again when reviewing (if using an electronic reader, indicate this as well). You should also give a brief explanation (1 or 2 sentences) of the significance of the quote. You should be able to locate 4 quotes at a minimum (at least 2 for the extra credit portion).
