so me and my brother are dumb as rocks, LOL and we need some of your genius’s help. Me and my brother recently went out to an amusement park with our little siblings and spent some good old money.

The ticket prices for six people was the total amount of $299, and I covered that entire initial expense with my credit card and in we went. While in there, my brother spent $148 on his credit card on food, games etc. and I spent an $111 on the same things making sure these kiddos had some fun on my credit.

When we left my brother and I pulled up our accounts and said OK well you owe me some money I said. Clearly I spent $411 and he spent $148 so how do we even things up between the both of us and have everything right down the middle because my account is hurting right now lol and I need some of that money back.

Clearly you spent 299+111 = 410 (not 411).

Together you spent a total of:

410+148 =558. If you had split that cost evenly then you each would have spent:

558/2 = 279. Clearly your brother did not spend nearly that much. He needs to pay an additional:

279 - 148 = 131 (but that difference goes to you).

With that additional $131 from your brother you will have spent: 410 - 131 = $279.

And your brother will have spent: 148+131 = $279.

So, have your brother give you $131 (in cash) and you can call it even.

It sounds like you paid $299 for all 6 people, which means each person cost $49.50. Then, your brother spent an additional $148 while you spent $111. if we assume that each person spent the same amount of money on food, games, etc., then we can say that each person's cost was $49.50 plus whatever additional amount they spent. For your brother, we know he spent an additional $148, and for you, we know you spent an additional $111. If we add these amounts to the base cost of $49.50 for each person, we can figure out how much each person should have paid.Perfect! So, if we add $48.50 to $148, we get $197 for your brother's cost. And, if we add $48.50 to $111, we get $159.50 for your cost. Now, we need to figure out the difference between these two amounts. If we subtract $197 from $159.50, we get $37.50. That means that your brother owes you $37.50. Does that make sense?
