The eight parts of speech are:
1. Noun - a person, place, thing, or idea. It can function as the subject or object of a sentence.
(cat, boy, racket)
2. Pronoun - a word that takes the place of a noun. It can function as the subject or object of a sentence.( He, she, it…)
3. Verb - a word that expresses an action or state of being. It can function as the predicate of a sentence.(play, cook, run)
4. Adjective - a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. It can function as a modifier in a sentence.(cold, beautiful, long)
5. Adverb - a word that describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or other adverb. It can function as a modifier in a sentence.( beautifully, nice, fast)
6. Preposition - a word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence. It can function as a connector in a sentence.(to, on, over)
7. Conjunction - a word that connects words, phrases, or clauses. It can function as a connector in a sentence.(and, or, that)
8. Interjection - a word or phrase that expresses strong emotion. It can function as an exclamation in a sentence.( oh! Ouch!, wow)
