About Margarita Ines

Bio

Most students don't fail Latin because Latin or Greek is too hard. They fail because no one taught them how to translate without guessing.
I'm Marg — a linguist with 18+ years of experience teaching Latin, Ancient Greek, and Modern Greek. I teach a structured 4-step protocol: identify the verb, separate the clauses, find the triggers, build the structure. Then translate. The result is students who understand Latin, not just memorize it.

I teach a structured 4-step protocol: identify the verb, separate the clauses, find the triggers, build the structure. Then translate. The result is students who understand Latin, not just memorize it.
I work especially well with:

High-achieving students preparing for AP Latin or NLE
Hardworking students who study but still struggle to "get it"
Students with learning differences who need a method built for how they actually learn

If your goal is overnight grade rescue, I may not be your best fit. If you want your student to genuinely understand Latin and walk into the AP exam confident, I can help.
Background: B.A. Linguistics (Athens, Greece), Master's focused on ADHD and inclusive education, Master's from University of Utah. Background in UX design, which I use to make lessons structured, clear, and engaging.
Rates: Entry-level lessons start at $50/hr. Intermediate, advanced, AP Latin, and exam prep rates increase based on level — I'll quote the right rate after we discuss your student's needs.

ADHD

ADHD

I got my Master's degree in Special Education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in Greece. I am highly qualified to teach students with ADHD as well as forms of Dyslexia and Dysorthography. I have worked for more than 15 years in a classroom and a private tutoring setting and my experience makes me a unique teacher. I researched aspects of ADHD with the University of Athens and I experimented on finding efficient as well as fun ways of tackling Dyslexia and forms of ADHD. The experiment took place in a school in the suburbs of Athens and I created a linguistic workshop introducing ancient Greek to elementary school kids and the other workshop I created was an Art & Craft one. The experiment held for a school year and the results on the kids were astonishing. The linguistic workshop taught the kids the ancient Greek as well as Indo-European (Latin) roots, thus the phenomenon of Dysorthography ( spelling issues) was minimized. On the other hand, the art introduction on a regular basis showed significant deterioration of anxiety and stress in a classroom setting, boosting of confidence and creativity, respect and collaboration between the students, and raising of empathy and cognitive skills. Kids felt "safer" in the class with their peers, the element of judgment was almost eliminated as a result of helping students with ADHD to be a part of a classroom.
Greek

Greek

I am a native Greek speaker. At University I studied Greek Literature and Education with a specialization in Linguistics. I also work as a translator (children books, poetry, etc) usually translating from English to Greek. In Greece, I was a teacher and private tutor for 12 years, so I have a significant amount of experience teaching all ages (young children - adults). My approach to teaching is using fun activities and art while learning. Fun has a positive effect on motivation levels, determining what we learn and how much we retain. If the experience is fun, learners will stay curious and keep coming back for more. My goal is to convert the learning process into a fun project.

Thoughtful and thorough tutor

Margarita is a very thoughtful and thorough tutor. She really seeks to go beyond the minimum and instill an appreciation for Latin for my daughter. She follows up with extra study material and provides detailed summaries of what was covered in the session. I can't recommend Marg enough.

Margarita is knowledgeable and encouraging. She listens to and understands her students, and she can modify her lesson according to the student's particular needs & interests. We went over the alphabet, phonetics, some verb conjugations, and simple phrases. Great lesson!

Very patient and great with kids!

Margarita couldn't have been more patient with my two children (4) and (6). She was knowledgeable and encouraging, and her pronunciation of the Greek language is perfect. We're so glad we chose Margarita for Greek lessons.
