Why do I need all parts of the English taught in schools to become a writer?

"Writing" is bringing together the English, the Grammar, the Proofreading, and the Vocabulary. Each part of being a writer includes all of the above parts. Writing is truly an art form that is personal but also universal for every student. There are rules and there are exceptions. When one learns the universal rules and then understands them, they can also understand when exceptions can lead to acceptable personal creativity as a student matures into a writer. Learn each step of the process. Then use your creativity to become you as a writer.

All of the writing aspects of English can help, including poetry, as the literary tools used in poetry are also used in other types of writing, including non-fiction. Knowing every tool in writing is useless without reading quality written work.

I would suggest taking AP English courses, as they focus most deeply on the writer's craft. Effective, widely-read writer's don't write the way they do "just because'--they always write with purpose and choose their words and literary tools carefully.

I would further suggest reading from works from other countries. History, geography, cultures, and perspective of others are also important tools for effective writing and are taught in the one most important subject--English.

One of your greatest tools are your own experiences, which all writers incorporate into their writing. If it's possible near where you live, include in your experience meeting writers and asking them questions about their journeys, what inspires them, or which writers influenced their writing.

The kind of writer you seek to become indicates the level of proficiency in English grammar and vocabulary that you acquire. Grammar and vocabulary are only tools to help you communicate in a way that is effective. They have no value otherwise. When I edit a student's work, I look to see first what I think the writer is trying to communicate. How do the organization, grammar, and vocabulary, serve to further the writer's intention? The greater proficiency you have in those writing tools like grammar, vocabulary, and thematic structure, the greater your choice in using them.

When one has achieved a complete command and fluency in the English language it is then possible to appreciate the vast , innumerable writing available and done initially in English. There is no better and more effective way to reach this level of English fluency without speaking with, reading and writing to intelligent and articulate native speakers.

This makes becoming very fluent in it a long term goal for many ESL students in my experience.

In order to do so students must spend time in person and the best way is by having a conversation and then after making notes to the students regarding their mistakes and error, demonstrating grammatically correct examples using a pen or pencil and if the teacher is able to give the students some information or the hard copies of whatever English they wanted to improve by focused practice and study.
