The word 'aquí=here and is used when the item is close to you. When you see this word with an item, you will need to use a form of 'este'. (Think of a Catholic person who does the sign of the cross on their chest. It is similar to a 't' and is really close to them.) Choose whether to use 'este' for a masculine, singular item, "esta' for a feminine singular item, estos for masculine plural, and estas for feminine plural.
The word 'allí" =there and is used when the item is a little far away, maybe in a friend's hands rather than the speaker. Choose: ese-masculine, singular esa-feminine, singular esos-masculine, plural esas-feminine, plural
The word 'allá'=there, item is far away. When you see this word, use a form of 'aquel' Aquel-masculine, singular, aquella-feminine, singular, aquellos-masculine, plural, aquellas-feminine, plural
You should be able to look at the end of the words above and easily know if they are masculine, feminine, singular, or plural. Perhaps 'lápiz' might be tricky-it is masculine.
