You can see that the width = 20 and length = 32. You are further told that the uniform-width is uw = 3/4 = 0.75.
You have for width: 20 = uw+ viewable width + uw = viewable width + 1.5 and thus:
viewable width = 20 -1.5
You also have for length: 32 = uw + viewable length + uw = viewable length + 1.5 and thus:
viewable length = 32-1.5
The area of the viewable portion is thus, as for any rectangle : (20 -1.5) * (32-1.5), which is what Mark wrote.
