Since the lengths of the two pieces are in the ratio 2.8:1.25, the lengths are 2.8x and 1.25x, for some positive number, x.  

 

2.8x - 1.25x = 80.6

 

1.55x = 80.6

 

        x = 52

 

Length of larger piece = 2.8x = 2.8(52) = 145.6 cm

Length of smaller piece = 1.25x = 1.25(52) = 65 cm
