a) y = mx + b
7 = -4(-1) + b
7 = 4 + b
b = 3
y = -4x + 3
b) First calculate the slope
m = (7 - 1)/(-3 - -6)
m = 6/3 = 2
Now we can use either point and do as we did before.
y = mx + b
1 = 2(-6) + b
1 = -12+ b
b = 13
y = 2x + 13
Now check using the other point.
7 = 2(-3) + 13
7 = -6 + 13
7 = 7 check
