Let x and y be the dimensions of the rectangle.
Since the perimeter is 46, 2x + 2y = 46, or x + y = 23 (y = 23 - x)
Draw a diagonal of 17 to form a right triangle. by Pythagorean theorem x2 + y2 = 172.
Substitute 23 - x for y and solve for x.
x2 + (23 - x)2=289
You can take it from here.
Once you have values for x and y, multiply those values to get the area of the rectangle.
