Hello Ghe! Let's go through the process of solving this problem.
This problem has two parts, the brothers' ages now in the present and their ages in the future.
Allan's age now is 25 years old.
His brother is 12 years younger than Allan.
Since he is 12 years younger, you would use subtraction to find the brother's age:
25 - 12 = 13
The brother's age now is 13 years old.
Now for the second part, the brothers' ages in the future:
Since the question is saying "In 10 years time" that means that it will be 10 years later. Since it is 10 years later, we add 10 to the present age of each brother.
Since Allan is now 25, for his age 10 years later you would add 10.
25 + 10 = 35
Allan's age in the future is 35 years old
Since his brother is now 13, for his age 10 years later you would add 10.
13 + 10 = 23
His brother's age in the future is 23 years old
For the total ages you just add the two future ages together.
Allan's age in the future is 35 and his brother's age in the future is 23, so you add those numbers together
35 + 23 = 58
Their total ages in the future in 10 years time is 58.
Hope this helped!
