Impact of Protests Movements

Question

What do you consider to be the most positive changes to come out of the protest movements of the 1960s? What do you consider to be the most negative changes? (How did things get worse?) In what ways do you think that American society did not change very much? (How is life today similar to how it was before the protest movements?) Explain your answers.

It is my opinion that the 1960 protests had a positive effect on the country as they were the basis for discussions with regard to racism, women’s rights, and war. Prior to the protests, most Americans were not involved with aforesaid issues. The negative impact was to split the country and widen what was to be called the “Generation Gap.”

It truly depends on what you consider positive. I think, the protests, those that were peaceful were the most impactful. But the outcome of the protests, could be too aggressive. I mean that to say, society cannot change overnight, it takes generations for it to work itself out and some think that slow progress is no progress.
