Positive Reinforcement is adding something to a situation that makes the behavior more likely to occur, e.g., higher grades for studying more and asking good questions, you might study more and keep asking good questions.
negative reinforcement is removing something from a situation that makes something less likely to occur, e.g., having your headache go away when you take Tylenol, or having your withdrawal symptoms go away when you take a drug.
