It's been a long time since I read Freak the Mighty, but I have very fond memories of this book. Most plots (including this one) develop along the following lines:
- Exposition (Also known as background, this introduces the "who," the "when," and the "where" of the story.)
- Rising Action (In most cases, the rising action introduces at least one big conflict. Some conflicts you might want to look for in this book include a character vs. themself, a character vs. others, or a character vs. a situation.)
- Climax (This is the big, often dramatic turning point of the book, where the biggest conflict is.)
- Falling Action & Resolution (Here, we find out what happens after the drama of the climax.)
An early development in the plot will likely fall into the "rising action" part of the story. Think about the kinds of conflicts that you see come up early- which characters are fighting against something? How might those conflicts, or fights, be important for the rest of the book?
