In order to graph a quadratic function at a particular vertex, you can use the form y = a(x-b)2 + c, where b is the x value of the vertex, and c is the y value of the vertex. a determines whether or not the function opens upwards or downwards; if a > 0, the parabola will open upwards, and if a < 0, the parabola will open downwards. Since b = 0, c = -2, and the parabola points downwards, the equation will be y = ax2 - 2, (a < 0).
