How do I "do" Shakespeare?

There's a lot of technical things that go into performing Shakespeare. Iambic Pentameter, verse vs. prose, breath. In my opinion, the first thing you need to do is truly understand what you are saying. Sit down and circle all the words you don't know. Research the monologue, the play, and the language. And when you finally understand what every word means, all of a sudden Shakespeare doesn't look so daunting.

To perform Shakespeare you must first understand if your character is speaking in Verse or Prose. Learn how to interpret the Iambic Pentameter! Understand the Story your character is IN and TELLING. Look up and define every word in the text you may not know or understand fully. Put the SHAKESPEARE in your own words! Understand the flow of THOUGHTS your character is having. BREATH!
