x-y =3
2x-2y = 6
subtract 3rd equation from the 1st to eliminate one variable
leaving
5y = 15
y = 15/5 = 3
x =6
the numbers are 3 and 6
or
2x+3y = 21
y-x = 3
2y-2x = 6
add last equation from to the 1st to get
5y = 27
y = 27/5 = 5.4
x = 2.4
the numbers are 2.4 and 5.4
or 3 and 6
2(2.4) +3(5.4) = 4.8+16.2 = 21
2(6) +3(3) = 12+9 = 21
