Here's another way to think about it: 16 play basketball + 8 play baseball + 12 don't play either. That's a total of 36. But there are only 30 students, so 36 - 30 = 6 must play both. If you drew a Venn diagram the overlap of the circles for basketball and baseball would contain 6 students. Again, the probability of a student playing both is 6/30 or 1/5 or 20%.
