My favorite LGBTQ+ book is also a fantasy series called The Broken Earth Series by N.K. Jemisin. It features characters from all over the rainbow and has such rich, diverse characters. There is something in it for everyone and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
DeadEndia is a supernatural graphic novel with a transgender main character, a nonbinary character, and a gay character. I've only read the first volume, but it did have a good first impression (I rated it 4 out of 5).

Out of Character by Annabeth Albert was an excellent read! It has college aged students, namely Milo Lionetti and Jasper Quigley. It is based on the premise of the Odyssey game, which Jasper is good at playing and Milo is good at losing. In fact, a large arc of the story is about Milo needing Jasper to find him replacements for his rare cards of the Royal Frog Court set. The cards were his brother’s, but he lost them in a match against George. Jasper is good at the card game partly because he works as a sales associate in a game store.
Jasper and Milo dress up as characters from the game to help hospitalized children feel better and to play Odyssey with them. Jasper goes to a convention with Milo to win a tournament in order to get the rare cards. While he does not win every match, he gathers enough points to get a few of the rare cards that Milo needs. The artist of the Odyssey game is at the convention, too, signing people’s memorabilia. Jasper and Milo also do this Odyssey scavenger hunt, where they are given clues about where certain Odyssey cards are. The rule of the scavenger hunt is to leave something of value behind as well. They have to solve some sort of riddles to find the cards. Professor Tuttle and Professor Herrera, both of whom are gay too, are minor characters that brought up this scavenger hunt possibility to Jasper.
Milo drives a stick-shift for much of the novel, but then decides to sell the car (which was originally his dad’s) due to not wanting to associate with his dad anymore and because he needs money. His dad had passed away prior to this novel’s events due to alcoholism. Milo and Jasper have tension because Milo had hurt Jasper in the previous book (one that I didn’t read). Jasper and Milo used to hang out all the time with sleepovers and such, but Milo became distant due to his sporty persona as a soccer athlete—an athlete that had won a scholarship. The scholarship got rescinded, however. Jasper, however, is more of a nerdy guy. Jasper had dated other guys before, whereas Milo never dated guys for fear of being outcast from his social circles, including his friends and family members.
So, Jasper is almost done with college, whereas Milo has yet to do any college courses successfully. At the end, Milo’s artwork is shown to people through social media, making him into a viral celebrity sensation, as he had drawn a sketch of one of the sick patients at the hospital, but he drew him looking healthy and splendid. He also gifted the drawing to the patient. There are some vivid descriptions in the novel, if you know what I mean. So, if you’re not into that kind of thing, then go ahead and don’t read it. That’s fine with me.
But this whole novel is very sentimental, well written, and well done. In the end, Jasper had to win a match against George who had unrightfully won the rare cards from Milo in the first place. And he did, thus granting him the two remaining rare cards. Yet, Jasper was betting his NY tickets to some Odyssey event, which would have been disastrous if he had lost, as he later gets his dream job working for the Odyssey company in NY. Milo decides to further his artistic pursuits and talents at a university in NY, so Milo and Jasper live together happily ever after, or at least until the next novel’s exposition.
I read this book through the Prince William County Public Library System’s Hoopla, a digital resource center for digital books. I cried near the end of my reading of the novel.
