If you want to have $1.50 left for a card, you really don't have the full $25 to spend. Let x = the number of roses you buy.
The equation would be based on 2 as the cost of 1 rose on the left and subtract off the 1.50 you want to have left.
2x ≤ 25-1.50 Solve by combining like terms.
2x ≤ 23.50 Divide both sides by 2
x ≤ 11.75 You cannot have .75 of a rose. You cannot round up, that would but you above budget.
You can buy 11 roses and still have enough for the card.
