Other than with regards to slavery and the economy, how'd it affect the culture in the South? How did the Southern culture become more distinct from the North?

There were a number of factors at work - nature, agriculture, aristocracy culture, chivalry, religion. Plenty of angles that you can take if you're doing a research paper or are just looking for a more comprehensive understanding of the era.
