What are your philosophies for teaching?

I treat all of my students as if they are very capable of achieving great things, if they choose to apply themselves. Regardless of their age, I generally speak to all of my students in a similar manner. (Younger students really appreciate this. They notice that I speak to them in the same tone that I speak to their parents and they usually see this as a sign of respect)

Since I genuinely believe my students are capable of accomplishing great things and creating great work, I hold them to a high standard, while retaining patience and realistic expectations. I provide a lot of encouragement and inspiration, but I also give constructive criticism to help foster results. All of my students see results in their own work quickly, and that is what motivates them to continue working with me.

Let's dive in! My number one principle is... be there for the student. At the end of the day, this isn't about the teacher, it's about the student and their growth and their COMFORT!!! Being pushed to be excellent isn't something that everyone responds well too. Being more understanding, patient, and supportive most importantly will help your student feel respected, appreciated, and dedicated to. They are taking their time and money to try and grow and learn, and it is an absolute honor to have someone choose you as their teacher. You may be the teacher, but you are serving the student.

I can't find anything wrong with what you say. But I emphasize that what you do to your best needs no outside confirmation. God created tons of us ordinary people and there is nothing wrong with that. My leading principle is, He who is faithful in little things will be faithful in greater -- and I bring William James into it with his great advice on habits.

My students are making themselves into a certain kind of a rather inflexible adult (for better or worse) by the habits they are acquiring now.
