1st thing, in the 1st quadrant all trig values are positive. 2nd, definition of cos is x/r, so x corresponds with 3 and r with 5. So, to find the value you need to find y. use the next formula x^2 + y^2 = r^2. 3^2 + y^2 = 5^2
y=4. tan = y/x; sec = r/x
tan t = 4/3, sec t = 5/3. now 4/3 + 5/3 = 3
Good luck on your test
