y = mx + b , y = 2x + b, where b is the y intercept . to find b choose any point say ( 2,0) and substitute in the equation 0 = 2(2) + b, 0 = 4 + b, b = -4 and the equation is y = 2x-4. lets choose the other point ( 4,4) and substitute 4 = 2(4) + b , 4 = 8 + b, b = 4-8 = -4 and so you get the same result for b and the equation is the same y = 2x - 4
