Inside would be the second. That is, the -5 is also part of the square root.
Now then, since we're working with square roots, that means that our value needs to be greater than or equal to 0 (because there are no negative sqr rts), so think of √(3x-5) as:
3x - 5 = 0
3x = 5
x = 5/3
So the domain is any number greater than 5/3 (or 1 2/3), or 5/3 to infinity
I'll assume that you really did mean that the -5 is not under the square root for this part. That is, I'll solve the other way as well.
that means 3x = 0
Divide both sides by 3:
x = 0
So in this case, the domain is 0 to infinity
That's why I has to ask how the problem is set up. Where that -5 lies changes the answer.
