Let "x" be "the number".
"Twenty-five times a number" then is "25x".
"The number increased by forty-eight" is "x + 48".
So 25x = x + 48
Subtract "x" from both sides to get 24x = 48
Divide both sides by 24 to get x = 2
Check this by multiplying the answer "2" by 25 (you get 50) and increasing it by 48 (you also get 50).
