1. 2/5x- 2 2/5 is subtracted from 3/4x+ 7 1/8, the result is 

 

2.  Subtract 3y- 1/6z from 4y+ 7/9z

 

3. (2 1/3q- 7) - (6/8q+9)

 

4. Find the difference (1/2m- 7) - (3/4m+2) - (6/16m- 5)

1. the subtraction is : ( 3/4x + 7 1/8) - (2/5x - 2 2/5)

The way to proceed is A. change proper to improper fractions, giving (3/4x + 57/8)

B. clear the fractions by multiplying both of the factors in the first expression by 8, giving 6x + 57

C. proceed in the same way with the second expression; (2/5x - 12/5)

D. multiply both factors by 5, giving (2x - 12)

E. do the subtraction: (6x + 57) - (2x - 12) = 6x + 57 -2x + 12 = 4x +69

 

Proceed in the same way with the remaining three subtractions. You should get 18y + 8z, q - 93, and +8m + 58
