Four major components of the blood are: Plasma, Erythrocytes, Leukocytes, and Thrombocytes.
A bit more about blood, which is a suspension and by definition will separate out into a liquid component and a solid component. The liquid component is made up mostly of water and dissolved solutes (like electrolytes, nutrient molecules, organic waste products, osmolytes, vitamins, and minerals) and is called Plasma. The solid components are called the formed elements. They include cells or pieces of cells that are produced by bone marrow within the ends long bones, or within the flatter bones of the body. The formed elements include Erythrocytes or red blood cells that carry oxygen and some carbon dioxide, Leukocytes or what blood cells that are responsible for defense of the body, RBC recycling, immunity, and Thrombocytes or platelets, which are pinched off portions of Megakaryocytes that are packed with a few organelles and many protein granules involved with clotting, immunity, and inflammation. Hope this helps!
