The general rule is people live where the food is. You can grow, hunt or catch food, and more varieties of food, in warmer climates than colder climates, hence the population bias.

Antarctica definitely has less per capita population than areas further away from the North or South Pole.
It's one of the 7 continents, with the least population. Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and S & N America all have far larger populations. Siberia in northern Russia is similarly unpopulated. Further north you go, the less people live there. Greenland is similarly unpopulated, in spite of its deceptively inviting name.
