It's a pyramid with a square base
that's one vertex on the top and four vertices of the square for a total 4+1 = 5 vertices
the slant sides are 4 edges. Add the square base's 4 edges for a total 4+4 = 8 edges
there are 4 faces on the sides of the pyramid and 1 face on the bottom for a total of 4+1 = 5
F+V = E+2 is Euler's formula
5+5 = 8+2 faces + vertices = edges + 2
F= E+2 -V = 8+2-5 = 5 faces for 8 edges and 5 vertices. With Euler's formula you can solve for F even without knowing what the actual 3 dimensional object is
