The gradual process by which Canada became an independent nation cannot be neatly characterized as either "conflict" or "cooperation." Britain united three colonies (Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick) into the Dominion of Canada in 1867. This provided a degree of autonomy, but Canada was still technically under British rule. Canada and other British Dominions achieved even greater autonomy in 1931 under the Stature of Westminster, and in 1982 Canada adopted its own Constitution. Canada is still part of the British Commonwealth and recognizes Elizabeth II as the Queen, but this is ceremonial and has little impact on Canadian governance.
