Since cos(x) is positive, you are limited to Quadrants 1 and 4 for cos(x) = 1/2. If you look at the Trig unit circle, there are only two solutions for x that give cos(x) = 1/2.

To get more solutions, add 2πk to the x values, for k = 1,2,3,4,.....
