What is Zero times Forty after you add Forty to it?

This is both a math problem and an english problem. Mostly math though.

I believe the answer to be 40 because the pause in the sentence during the word after: So I read the equation as 0 * 40 + 40 = 40.

My friend is saying 0*40 but first you add 40 to Zero and then do 40*40 = 1600

I feel this is completely wrong and i would like to make sure that I have the write answer.

Order of operations says start from left to right using PEMDAS.

40 times zero is zero.

Then the final answer is 40.

zero times 40 is zero + 40
