x intercepts are roots, zeros or solutions to equations graphically.
factors are x minus the root or zero
if -1 is an x intercept, then x+1 is a factor of the polynomial
y=x^2 + 3x +2 = (x+1)(x+2) has solutions, zeros, roots or x intercepts of -1 and -2
the corresponding factors are (x+1) and x+2. take the x intercept, change its sign and stick an x in front of it to get the factor. -1 is a solution or x intercept. change its sign to +1, stick an x in front of it to get x+1 as a factor
x=-1 is a solution, rewrite it as x+1=0, then x+1 is the factor corresponding to the solution x=-1
