How could you compare two triangles such as those below to determine which is bigger?

You could compare perimeter or area. Just by looking does not seem like any kind of math problem.

Visually, the one on the left seems clearly larger in area
If you mean height or altitude, the one on the rights looks bigger
If you knew the side lengths or just 3 pieces of information, 2 angles and a side or 2 sides and an angle you use law of cosines and sines, or Huron's formula if you just knew the 3 side lengths. Take some careful measurements with a ruler protractor. the one on the left is easiest, it looks like an equilateral triangle, with 3 60 degree angles and all sides equal. Just measure one side, carefully.
