the number of blue skittles= x

the number of red skittles= x+8

to find the weight of blue skittles in oz you can then do 4oz times x

to find the weight of red skittles in oz you can then do 10oz times (x+8)

so your problem will look like (the weight of red skittle + the weight of blue skittles = 340):

10(x+8) + 4(x) = 340

10x + 80 + 4x = 340

14x + 80 = 340

14x = 260

x= 18 4/7
