This question needs a bit more information . Such as how much each skittle weighs? it is also worded a bit weirdly, but according to google a single skittle is about 0.04 ounces. That would mean that a box that weighs 340 ounces would have 8500 skittles in it. ( 350 ounces divided by 0.04 ounce per skittle = 8500 skittles ) ounces cancel out. To find out how many we have of each, based on this question we must assume the box only has red and blue skittles. There are 8 more red skittles in the box than blue ones if we assume you mean 8 more as in an additional 8 then if x is the number of blue skittles then x + (x+8) = 8500
you end up with 2x+8=8500 , simplify to 2x= 8492 by subtracting 8 from both sides. Then divide by 2 to get how many blue skittles you have . That leaves you with 4,246 blue skittles . If red skittles = x+8 then 4246 + 8 = 4254 red skittles. to check 4254 + 4246 = 8500.
On the other hand, if the question is missing a word and it is supposed to be that there are "8 times more more red than blue" then the question will be different. Now our equation will be x + (8*x) = 8500 in this case we would simplify to 9x = 8500 which would give us 944.44 skittles (weird number so im assuming this is not the question). But if we were to continue with this method, 944.44 would be the amount of blue skittles. the amount of red skittles would be 7555.52
