Let's say T-shirt is t and shorts is s. So we have 2 equations
A t-shirt and two pairs of shorts cost $53.50 => t + 2s = 53.50 (equation 1)
two t-shirts and 3 pairs of shorts cost $84 => 2t + 3s = 84 (equation 2)
so taking equation 1 => t = 53.50 - 2s Keep the value of t in equation 2 we will get
2(53.50-2s) + 3s =84
107 - 4s + 3s = 84 => 107 - s = 84 => -s = 84-107
s = 23 now keep the s value in equation 1 or 2. I have kept s value in equation 1
t = 53.50 - 2(23) => t = 53.50 - 46 => t = 7.5
So the value of 1 T-shirt is $ 7.5 and 1 pair of shorts is $ 23
