Math, microeconomics or criminal justice

6 8 1

-3 -4 -0.5

divide row 1 by 6

1 8/6 1/6

-3 -4 -1/2

multiply 1st row by 3 and add to 2nd row

1 8/6 1/6

0 0 0

the two equations are linearly dependent. They have the same x and y values

There is no way to "solve" the two equations or either x or y, as they have an infinite number of solutions

You can only solve for y in terms of x or vice versa

6x + 8y= 1.

8y = 1-6x

y = 1/8 -3x/4

6x+8y=1

6x = 1-8y

x = 1/6 - 4y/3

You get the same solutions if you use the 2nd equation

You can graph the two equations. They're the same line, same downward sloping line.
