solve the 1st equation for x = (3-y)/3 = 1-y/3 and substitute that
in the 2nd equation to get
2(1-y/3) -5y = 6
2 -2y/3 -5y = 6
17y/3 = -4
y = (3/17)(-4) = -12/17
x= 1-(1/3)(-12/17) = 1+4/17 = 21/17
