The hypothesis could be, for example, either that Vitamin D increases bone density or that Vitamin D decreases bone density. The control group would be a subset of the group that doesn't receive Vitamin D. The experimental variable is the independent variable that the researcher manipulates, so in this case it would be whether or not they receive doses of Vitamin D. The testing group is the subset of the 1000 people that do receive the experimental treatment, in this case it's the group that receives Vitamin D.
